• It supports rule based and procedural text processing: at present its text processing features include support for both SNOBOL/Icon/OmniMark expression style text matching, and regular expression style text matching currently used in XSLT.

• Text processing, rule based and and procedural, can appear both at the top-level of a program and within classes.

• It supports multi-phase processing, where the output of one phase can be processed by another phase. What’s passed between phases can either be a stream of text, or a sequence of objects of a specified common type.
