Computer Speed and Size and Implementation Tools (1)

Two major factors greatly constrain what can be implemented in any programming language:

  • The speed (MHz) and memory size (RAM) of the computer hardware available determine what can be done. They both limit what can be done in the time available for implementation and limit what will ‶fit″ into the available resources (memory).

  • Early design decisions limit what can be added to and/or changed in a programming language. Later desirable features either cannot be added or fit clumsily with earlier introduced features.
